Georgia National University to set-up campus in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Nara Lokesh announced on Monday that Georgia National University (GNU) has signed an agreement with the state government to establish an international university in north Andhra Pradesh. The project involves an investment of Rs 1,300 crore. Lokesh stated that this initiative is aimed at elevating education standards in the state to a global level. He described it as a significant step for higher education in Andhra Pradesh.

“GNU has signed an MoU (agreement) with the AP Govt (Andhra Pradesh government) in my presence to establish an International University in North Andhra with a Rs 1,300 Cr (crore) investment,” Lokesh said in a post on X.

The university will offer internationally recognized programs in technology, business, and healthcare. It is expected to focus on enhancing education standards, research, and technological advancements in the region. According to Lokesh, the establishment of the university will contribute to skill development, allowing students to compete in the global job market.

The Minister, who also handles the IT portfolio, stated that the university would generate more than 500 jobs. He reiterated the government’s commitment to positioning Andhra Pradesh as a global education hub.

While North Andhra has been identified as the proposed location, some reports also mention Amaravati as a potential site for the university. There has been no official clarification regarding the final location of the institution.

The state government has been actively seeking international collaborations to enhance the education sector. The partnership with GNU is among the initiatives aimed at strengthening research capabilities and promoting technological advancements in Andhra Pradesh.

Officials have indicated that further details regarding infrastructure, faculty recruitment, and the commencement of academic operations will be provided in the coming months.
