Parliament questions IIT faculty-student ratio, Centre says 3500 vacancies filled in 4 years

The issue of faculty vacancies continued in subsequent years. An August 2022 parliamentary response had put the number of vacant teaching positions across the 23 IITs at 4,596. The subsequent 'mission mode recruitment drive' was intended to address such vacancies.

Given that the sanctioned posts and vacancies were not shared, it was not ascertainable from this reply as to how many of the reductions in single-teacher schools came from new appointments, and how many came from school mergers, closures or reclassification.

With the latest approvals to the University of Bristol, the University of York and UNSW Sydney, the UGC has now issued five Letters of Approval to foreign higher education institutions seeking to establish campuses in India. The other institutions that have received approvals are the University of Southampton and the University of Liverpool.
