At a virtual meeting of Congress leaders and candidates, party president Mallikarjun Kharge asked Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah about his expectations from the state in the Lok Sabha poll results.

Siddaramaiah said he believed the Congress will win 15-20 seats. Kharge then asked him about the inputs from the state intelligence. The Chief Minister said the state intelligence has estimated the Congress to win more than 12 of the 28 seats in the state. He said his estimate was based on feedback from candidates and party leaders.

Impressed with Siddaramaiah’s confidence, Kharge told him he would personally come to Bengaluru and garland him if the party reached the 20 mark.

Water Curbs

Water usage in government buildings has come under scrutiny at a time when Delhi is experiencing water supply cuts during the heatwave. The Jal Shakti Ministry has asked the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), which maintains government offices, to make sure its 2019 initiative of installing water tap aerators is followed, it is learnt. The government should lead by example and all CPWD buildings should install aerators on all taps to control the flow of water, the Ministry told the CPWD on May 10. Acting on the Ministry’s instructions, the CPWD last week issued an order to all its offices to make sure aerators are installed in all taps in Central government buildings.

New House Plans

Ahead of the counting of votes on June 4, the Lok Sabha secretariat has started preparations for welcoming the new members. Lok Sabha secretary general Utpal Kumar Singh on Friday inspected the arrangements made for seamless registration of members of the 18th Lok Sabha; the process will be completely paperless this time.

The secretariat will set up digital registration desks, guide posts at airports and railway stations. The preparations for setting up transit accommodation is also ongoing. There will be 20 registration counters — 10 each in the banquet hall and private dining room in the Parliament House Annexe. The secretariat has also trained 70 officers for the registration purpose.
