Two militants were killed in an infiltration bid in a joint operation by Kupwara police and Army at the Line of Control in Kumkadi area of Machil Sector in Kupwara district on Saturday, said the Jammu and Kashmir police.
Based on an intelligence input to the J&K police, a joint party of police and Army launched a search operation in the Kumkadi area along the LoCl in Machil sector. The joint team, “observed the movement of terrorists in the area. Employing meticulous tactics, the terrorists were intercepted who fired indiscriminately upon the joint team. In retaliation, it led to the elimination of two heavily armed unidentified terrorists.”
The identification and affiliation of the alleged terrorists is being ascertained. Police have claimed recovery of arms and ammunition including two AK series rifles, four AK magazines, 90 rounds of ammunition, one pistol (Pakistan origin), one pouch, cash Rs 2,100 (Pakistani currency) and other incriminating materials from the site of encounter.
In a statement, the J&K police said that the two were “equipped with sophisticated weaponry which indicates their malicious intent to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the Valley. However, due to the timely and effective response by the police & Army, their plans were foiled and a significant threat to peace and stability in the area was neutralised.”
