The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has urged students, educational institutions, parents, counsellors to fill in surveys by the National Task Force set up by the Supreme Court concerning the prevention of student suicides in Higher Educational Institutions. The surveys can be found on the website https://ntf.education.gov.in/.

The task force was established by the Supreme Court in March this year to combat student suicides. The task force then launched a series of surveys on its official website to gather crucial inputs from stakeholders i.e. students, parents, faculty members and higher education institutions.

In the circular released on November 22, SPPU said, “It is advised that all affiliated colleges/recognized institutions should visit the website http://ntf.education.gov.in/ and encourage students, parents, mental health advisors, and counselors to fill in the information by reviewing the above topic and reference letter by by 25/11/2025.”

The move comes after the Union Joint Secretary (Higher Education) flagged on November 19 “that there has been miniscule number of responses on Institutional Survey from Higher Education Institutions of some of the States. Hon’ble Supreme Court has also taken cognizance of this matter and has issued directions for the Institutions to fill the survey on the NTF portal.” This letter said the surveys must be filled by November 29.

In March 2025, a bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan set up the task force headed by former Justice S Ravindra Bhat. The task force has nine other representatives from diverse fields and senior advocate Aparna Bhat has been appointed Amicus Curiae in the case.. The court was hearing a challenge to Delhi High Court’s order by parents of two IIT Delhi students who allegedly died by suicide. The High Court had dismissed the parent’s petition asking for registration of FIRs in the matter.
