Good and formidable social work can be done by consistent selfless effort, which has been demonstrated by Sarhad in Kargil, said State Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil on Sunday.

He was speaking at the Kargil Gaurav Award distribution programme held jointly by Sarhad and the Ladakh Police at the 3D destination hall in Mukundnagar, Pune on the occasion of National Kargil Day and the 400th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. A tribute was paid to the Kargil heroes. The award was presented by Walse-Patil.

A special honour was bestowed upon Pimpri-Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Krishna Prakash by declaring him the brand ambassador of the Kargil International Marathon.

Walse-Patil said, “We are facing natural disasters such as storms, floods and Covid-19. We should face them with courage. Some people and organisations come forward to help society in such calamities.”
Sarhad had taken the lead to establish contact with the people of Kargil after 1999. The NGO provided education to children from Kargil and also launched other initiatives.

Leh-Kargil Executive Councillor (state minister rank) Aga Syeed Abbas Rizvi said, “Kargil and Pune have a beautiful relationship. When I see that Pune residents have so much knowledge about and affection for Kargil, I feel that I am in Kargil only. We all are one. So, we should co-operate with each other to progress as a nation…”

Giving details about the objective of the Kargil International Marathon, Rizvi said the annual event will promote Kargil as an international tourist destination. It will also inspire local youths to pursue sports as a career and motivate them to achieve better things in life.
