THE standing committee of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation on Tuesday approved an electric vehicle policy for three-wheeler autorickshaws. PCMC is offering a subsidy of up to Rs 30,000 for conversion of CNG autos to EVs.

“The EV policy for auto-rickshaws was passed at today’s standing committee meeting,” PCMC commissioner Shekhar Singh told The Indian Express. Singh presided over the meeting.
The PCMC chief, who is also the civic administrator, said, “PCMC is offering up to Rs 30,000 subsidy for autos with batteries, and Rs 15,000 grant for autos without batteries.

In effect, we are matching the Rs 30,000 grant being offered by the state government. The Centre is also offering a similar grant of Rs 30,000 to auto-rickshaws for conversion from CNG to EVs.”

Singh said that initially they are offering the subsidy to the first 1,500 autorickshaws. “The scheme will then be extended to other autos,” he said.
