Maratha Light Infantry,Belgaum,put on a dominant show in the first semi-final of the Aga Khan Cup Hockey tournament by thrashing Central Railways,Mumbai with a 5-2 score.
In the match played at Major Dhyan Chand hockey stadium,it was Central Railways Rajendra Yadav who scored the first goal in the seventh minute. The pace of the game slowed down after the goal as both teams tried their best to keep possession and find weaknesses in the opposing defence.
Ganesh Patel restored parity for Maratha Light Infantry in the 39th minute. Kalyan Bengre added a quick second and Nelesh Wadkar made it 3-1 in the 48th minute. Krishna Patil scored the fourth,and Bengre rounded off the victory,slamming in the fifth in the 69th minute. Central Railways pulled one back through Harmeet Singh in the 65th minute.
In the second semi-final,QP XI,Bhopal,hammered Pune City Police 6-2. Osaf ur-Rehman and Mobem ur-Rehman scored two apiece and Asad Kamal and Azam Beg helped themselves to one goal each. Amol Bhosale and Kunal Jagdish were the scorers for Pune City Police.
