Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha Wednesday sought to link allegations of a paper leak in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) to his predecessor, former Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav.

On May 5, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in Bihar, which is probing the paper leak allegations, has said that its investigation is “suggestive of a paper leak”.

Amid reports that members of a gang involved in the alleged leak stayed at a government guest house in Patna, Sinha said, “I am collecting information. Those who have been nabbed at the NHAI guest house are linked to one Pritam. People say that he is linked to former Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav. We are collecting information on the entire matter. Because of elections, we couldn’t collect full information until now. We will review this and all those who are guilty, action will be taken against them… They will have to clear which minister and who all were using it (the guest house). I have issued warnings in my department, and I will also take action and find out on whose behest the booking was done… Action will be taken. This is a big matter. We have said earlier too that the mindset of RJD is to train, nurture, encourage criminals… This will be clear in a high-level probe.”

RJD national spokesperson Subodh Kumar Mehta told The Indian Express: “First, Bihar deputy CM Sinha must not make any irresponsible statement on basis of stray media reports. One should go by what Economic Offences Unit finds in its o going investigation. As for alleged connection of NEET case main accused Sikandar Yaduvanshi with staffer of leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, the onus is on NDA to explain how Yaduvanshi got job of junior engineer in 2012 and how he was shifted to town planning department with posting in Danapur in 2021. Deputy CM Sinha is casting aspersons on our leader.”

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Bihar EOU, which had taken over the probe from Patna police last month, has said that admit cards, post-dated cheques and certificates of several candidates had been seized from members of an “organised inter-state gang”.

“Of the 13 people arrested in the case so far, four are candidates who took the NEET. The remaining are their parents and members of the organised gang, which allegedly gathered 35 candidates before the exam at a school under the jurisdiction of Ramakrishna Nagar police station, and conducted a mock exam. They allegedly received the NEET question paper with answers there,” an EOU official had told The Indian Express.
