A JD(U) leader on Wednesday filed a complaint case in the court of Patna’s chief judicial magistrate against Goa CM Pramod Sawant for hurting sentiments of the people of Bihar and UP with his recent statement that “90 per cent of crimes in Goa were committed by migrant labourers from Bihar, UP and other areas”. The complainant also demanded an apology from the Goa CM, failing which he would take legal course.

“How can the Goa CM say that migrants from North India, especially from Bihar, are responsible for 90 per cent crimes in Goa? One is free to work in any part of India,” JD (U) leader Manish Singh said.

On Monday, at a labour day programme in Goa, Sawant had said that maximum crimes in Goa are committed by migrant labourers and appealed to contractors and employers to obtain a labour card before engaging them for work in the state.

On Wednesday, Sawant said, “On International Labour Day… I gave a speech in Konkani. It was twisted by some leaders. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone, but if any leader or labourer from any state has been hurt, then I regret it.”
