He is back where he had started on January 26. But his mission has been accomplished. On Sunday, when Amit Lall (37),a businessman, reached the Gateway of India,he had covered approximately 20,000 km and 28 states, spreading the message of Peace and Unity.
He went from state and in his car on the peace mission.
Amit decided to spread the message after the 26/11 attacks. His mother was traveling to Allahabad from CST station and her train left just 5 minutes before the terrorists took over the place.
Being brought up in Churchgate,Amit was also a regular visitor at the Taj and Trident and the death and destruction during the attacks disturbed him.
He says he wrote to Ratan Tata about his One Man Peace Mission and was assured of the support of the Taj Group of Hotels. Viewing it as a noble cause,Hyundai too sponsored the repair and maintenance of his Accent car at their service centers on the route.
Amit drove down south along the western coast to Kanyakumari and then headed along the eastern coast to Kolkata via Chennai. He covered the eight north-eastern states, too, where he spent the maximum time.
It is sad to see that people of the North-East feel they get step-motherly treatment from the Government. There is hardly any development and terror groups operate there, says Lall.
It was Kashmir though that saddened Lall most. Jammu is just like the rest of the country. But as soon as you cross the Jawahar tunnel,it seem another country. The people in Kashmir hardly feel a part of the country.
Amit has now formed an organisation called The United Force of India which he would serve as a networking platform for all NGOs,self-help groups and youth to come together. He plans to write a book soon on his experiences.
