Two boys, aged 18 and 17, were apprehended by the police on Thursday for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl from Thane district. The police said the girl initially said she was raped at a birthday party by an unknown person. However, investigation revealed she was sexually assaulted allegedly by two boys residing in her locality.
According to police, the mother of the 17-year-old girl came to know about the sexual assault earlier this week after her daughter complained of severe stomach ache. The police said the mother initially took her to a doctor in Thane district. Tests revealed she was three months pregnant.
“Fearing social stigma, the girl’s mother told other family members and neighbours that they were going to her maternal home. Instead, she admitted her daughter to a state-run hospital in Mumbai,” an officer said.
As the girl is a minor, doctors informed the police, who recorded her statement and began investigating. The 17-year-old told the police she had a friend in CST and she had attended her birthday party in mid-December. At the party, a man sexually assaulted her in the washroom, she told the police. She claimed she did not know the accused.
“We questioned her again. She then said that an 18-year-old boy who lived in the vicinity had sexually assaulted her. She also said her brother knew him,” the officer said.
The police then detained the 18-year-old and during further investigation, it was found that another 17-year-old too had allegedly sexually assaulted the girl.
