Mumbai: Two Air Traffic Control employees injured in attack at Vile Parle colony

Two employees of the Air Traffic Control office of the domestic airport here were injured in an alleged attack by a group of inebriated youngsters inside a housing colony in Vile Parle East on Sunday night.

The incident took place when manager Rajkumar Yadav left his home at ATC Colony in Vile Parle East to go to the domestic airport for his night shift. Police said he spotted a group of seven-eight young men drinking and he scolded them for consuming alcohol in the area.

The youngsters overpowered Yadav and began to hit him. Fellow ATC employee Akshat Mahalwala, who spotted the commotion, informed the police control room before rushing to Yadav’s help.

The group attacked Mahalwala as well, the police said.

The youngsters then fled. Yadav, who was not seriously injured, rushed Mahalwala to a hospital.

According to Dr Rajendra Patankar, the Chief Operating Officer at Nanavati Hospital, Mahalwala was brought in with assault injuries at 12.30 am. “He has injuries in the right eye and a fracture in the right ankle.

But his condition is stable now,” Patankar said. A case of rioting and causing hurt was registered at Vile Parle police station against unidentified persons on Monday, the police said.
