Lathicharge, tear gas firing at Barsu Solgaon as villagers protest against proposed refinery
Police resorted to a lathicharge and fired tear gas shells as villagers in Barsu Solgaon intendified their protest against a proposed refinery and tried to enter the survey site forcibly. 1,800 police personnel remain deployed in the village, where Section 144 remains imposed as the government surveys the site for the project.
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, who came at the receiving end of the rulling alliance’s potshots for allotting land for the project during his tenure as Maharashtra CM, said the refinery would have gone ahead only after the villagers’ consent.
