Maharashtra Mumbai Rains Weather Today Updates: Even as the sun shines bright over Mumbai for the third day in a row, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted generally cloudy skies with moderate rainfall in parts of the city and its suburbs on Saturday. The intensity of downpour began to ease on Wednesday, helping the city gradually return to normal after days of relentless rain that had flooded streets, and disrupted both air and train services.

How Mumbai is getting back to daily grind: While minor train delays were reported, public transport services, including BEST buses and suburban trains on the Central and Western lines are operating without interruption, officials said on Friday. Vehicular traffic on roads and highways across Mumbai has also returned to normal. On Tuesday evening, 782 passengers were rescued after two overcrowded Monorail trains on elevated tracks got stuck between stations in Mumbai on a day of torrential rains.

Due to the heavy rains over last few days, water level in the seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai has reached 94.95 per cent— highest in three years as on Aug 22. Three lakes — Tulsi, Vehar and Modak Sagar have achieved 100% lake level.

Maharashtra Mumbai Rains Weather Today Live Updates: Heavy showers replenish Mumbai’s water stock to 95% of capacity; supply to last over a year

As moderate to heavy rainfall continued over the satellite Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) area, the average water stock in all seven lakes that supply water to the city reached the 94.95 per cent mark on Friday morning, with three of the lakes recording 100 per cent water stock.

At present, all seven lakes have a combined water stock of 1.37 lakh million litres against their total capacity of 1.41 lakh million litres.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) supplies water amounting to 3,850 million litres a day (MLD) against an overall demand of 4,200 MLD. Therefore, the current stock is set to last for 375 days.

“This year, the entire state of Maharashtra recorded good rainfall, especially over the last week. As a result of which the overall stock has risen by a significant margin. We are hoping that since the stock has reached adequate capacity, there will be no need for water cuts for the next one year, barring for maintenance purposes,” a civic official said. Read

Mumbai's GSB Seva Mandal has secured an insurance cover of Rs 474.46 crore for its five-day Ganpati celebrations this year, an official said on Friday.

Last year, the mandal had an insurance cover of 400.58 crore.

The festivities, held at King's Circle in Sion, will begin with Ganesh Chaturthi on August 27 and continue for five days.
