MMRDA calls tender of over Rs 2k crore for rolling stock, carshed works

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has relocated tenders for the metro line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar in Andheri Lokhandwala to Vikhroli, Eastern Express Highway (EEH)) for procurement of rolling stock, signalling & train control, telecommunications, carshed machinery, platform screen door, for the project.

The previous tender for procurement of rolling stock and other technical systems was cancelled due to MMRDA’s failure to meet the mandatory guidelines instituted by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) in the tender document, along with issues over the proposed Kanjurmarg depot land ownership.

The MMRDA had earlier proposed to procure 108 standard gauge cars (coaches) for metro line 6.

The elevated 15.31 km long Mumbai Metro Line 6 is over 60 per cent complete and is being constructed at cost of Rs 6,716 crore, with funding through the National Development Bank (NDB). The expected timeline for completion is November or December 2024. The state approved the elevated metro line 6 in 2017.
