The bus, operated by Olectra group on wet-lease basis, was en route to Sion bus station from Ballard Pier when the accident took place.
According to BEST, the victim, Aruna Sadashiv Jadye, came in contact with front-left side corner of the bus at 5.50 pm while crossing the road. She got trapped under the low-floored bus and could be taken out only after lifting the bus using a taxi driver’s jack.
She sustained injuries to her chest and ribs, and was shifted to Bhatia Hospital, Tardeo. She was declared dead during treatment by Dr Atul Singh at 9.38 pm.
The driver of the bus has been identified as 47-year-old Sandeep Ganpat Parab.
This is a second such incident reported in the month of June. Earlier, Balaram Bagwe, a 49-year old pedestrian, got entangled with the rear wheel of a bus. The bus, that was travelling from Backbay Depot to CSMT, had lost control and collided with a stationary BEST bus at Badhwar park, Cuffe Parade.
