Minister of State for Home Ram Shinde tabled the bill in the House and was adopted without any debate. The new legislation has made it mandatory for the dance bar operators to enforce stringent norms and violations would invite punishment of jail terms up to five years and fine up to Rs 25,000, or both.

The dance bars should be at least a kilometre away from any education or religious institution, and they should operate between 6 pm and 11.30 pm.
