The Bombay High Court on Thursday issued notices to the state government and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on a petition filed by former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan seeking quashing of an FIR against him in the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society controversy.

The Bombay High Court on Thursday issued notices to the state government and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on a petition filed by former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan seeking quashing of an FIR against him in the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society controversy.

A division bench of Justice P V Hardas and Justice A R Joshi posted the matter for hearing after two weeks, and asked the state government and the CBI to give their stand.

Chavan,in his plea, had questioned the jurisdiction of the CBI to probe the case, and contended that the state government had not given its consent to the agency to probe the case. He claimed his name had been wrongly dragged into the case and that it was a political conspiracy against him.

In his deposition before the two-member Adarsh panel in June,Chavan had contended that the land allotment in the case was not done by him,as he was not the CM at the time.

While the letter of intent for the housing society was approved by former CM Vilasrao Deshmukh, the letter of allotment (LOA) was approved by Sushilkumar Shinde when he was CM.
