A major technical snag brought several Metro trains to a grinding halt on the Gurgaon corridor Thursday evening, putting several passengers to inconvenience.
While one train was stuck between Chhatarpur and Qutab Minar on the tracks and passengers had to be moved out through the emergency exits, around three others that were affected between Sultanpur and Green Park due to the glitch managed to make it to the nearest Metro stations, where passengers were made to get off.
Sharma said,We were made to exit from the emergency doors and had to walk up to Qutab Minar Metro station. We waited at the station for well over 30 minutes hoping another train would come in but there was no service. Also there were no announcements that led to further chaos. Since all the commuters had to take other modes of transport from the station,it was really difficult to find an auto or bus and most of us managed to share autos. However,Delhi Metro officials said that all the affected trains were brought to the station and there was no evacuation on the tracks.
According to an official Delhi Metro statement,Metro Services of Line 2 (Jahangirpuri-Huda City Centre) were affected today between Green Park Metro station and Sultanpur Metro station when a portion of the OHE (Over Head Electrification) line broke down near Qutub Minar Metro Station.
Trains running from Sultanpur towards Green Park were affected from 6.32 pm to 7.20 pm on the stretch. During this period short loop train services were being run from Jahangirpuri to Green Park and from Sultanpur to HUDA City Center. No metro service was available on the affected stretch leaving hundreds of passengers stranded looking for other modes of transport. Single line operations were undertaken from 7.20 pm to 8.20 pm on the affected stretch to ferry passengers.
Niloy Moitra, who works with a law firm in Gurgaon and a regular metro commuter, said,It took me two hours to get home as I was stuck at Chhatarpur station and could not find any other mode of transport to reach Malviya Nagar. The station was chaotic and for a very long time there were no announcements.
