The Mumbai police on Monday booked a Gujarat man for trying to get a United States (US) visa by submitting bogus documents, based on a complaint from the US Consulate. They have also booked his three agents who had prepared the documents for the main accused identified as Niranjan Patel, 36, a resident of Mehsana district, Gujarat.
Patel visited the US Consulate in Mumbai for an interview to get a visa and the officials observed some discrepancies during the verification process.
“On inquiry, it was found that Patel had earlier applied for a Canada visa, but the same was rejected as he had then submitted a bogus US visa,” the police complaint stated.
The US Consulate discovered that Patel had again submitted false documents to get the US visa, the complaint added.
When he was confronted, he named three agents — Sonal, Uday Rawal, and Piyushkumar Parel — who were helping him fraudulently get a US visa, the Bandra-Kurla Complex police stated in the First Information Report.
The police have booked the four for cheating and forgery under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are investigating the matter, said an officer.
