DILIP KHEDKAR, father of sacked IAS officer Puja Khedkar, who has been on the run since September 13 after he along with his driver allegedly abducted the cleaner of a truck in Navi Mumbai and took him to their Pune residence, filed for anticipatory bail before a court, police said.

His wife Manorama Khedkar, also named as an accused in the case, got anticipatory bail from a Navi Mumbai court on September 30. Police have already arrested the driver.

Police also recorded the statement of Manorama in accordance with the conditions set by her pre-arrest bail. An official said that in her statement, Manorama has denied the allegations against her and has claimed that she was not involved in abducting the cleaner or abstracting the police team that reached their residence.

The police action came after Puja’s father, Dilip, a retired Maharashtra government official, and his bodyguard allegedly had an altercation with truck driver Chandrakumar Chavan and the cleaner, Prahlad Kumar, 22, on September 13.

The concrete mixer truck allegedly brushed past Khedkars’ car at a traffic junction on the Mulund-Airoli Road.

The two men then allegedly forced Kumar into their vehicle, saying they were taking him to the police station. Vilas Dherange, the truck owner, lodged a complaint after Kumar did not respond to the repeated calls made by Chavan.
