Kiran Landge, a former corporator of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation from Chandivali, quit the Shiv Sena (UBT) and joined the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Ekanth Shinde on Tuesday night along with Arjun Gholap, secretary of the Chandivali Shiv Transport Sena. Landge is the tenth former BMC corporator from Uddhav Thackeray’s party to join the rival camp ahead of the elections to the civic body. Last week Chandravati More, a former corporator from Powai, and Shakha Pramukh Manish Nayar switched over to the Shinde-led party. Earlier, Ameya Ghole, a former corporator from Wadala and close aide of Uddhav’s son and MLA Aaditya Thackeray, joined the Shinde Sena.

Even as Shinde managed to get the support of 40 Sena MLAs and 13 Lok Sabha MPs, only a handful of former Mumbai corporators have joined his party. Among them are also Sheetal Mhatre (Dahisar), Samadhan Sarvankar (Prabhadevi), Yashwant Jadhav (Byculla), Santosh Kharat (Worli) and Datta Narvankar (Worli). While welcoming Landge and his supporters to the party, Shinde tweeted, “A lot of supporters of Landge were present with him on the occasion. I am welcoming all of them to the party and I wish them all the best for their future social and political growth. The coalition government in the state is the government of the common people and is always prepared to solve their issues.”
