Truants from census workshop to face the music

Departmental action will be taken against over 1,500 government workers in Lucknow who skipped the Census training workshop from May 10 to 12.

Issuing the directive,Lucknow District Magistrate and Principal Census Officer,Anil Kumar Sagar said: “Departmental action will be taken first. If the employees failed to turn up,FIR will be lodged against them.”

The Census will begin in UP from May 16. Ahead of the exercise,a training workshop had been organised by the representatives from Directorate of Census Operations from May 10 to 12.

The 10,000 chosen personnel — employees of different departments of the Central government,the state government and the banks — were to act as enumerators and supervisors in Lucknow.

The data of Census 2011 is to be forwarded to the Unique Identity Authority of India,which will provide a unique identity number to every Indian citizen.
