Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday ordered that the state government would provide complete financial assistance for the treatment of an eight-year-old girl who has blood cancer.

Swati is the daughter of Rajni, who works as a domestic help, and Ravi,a contractual painter living in Ashiyana.

The girl is being treated at the Pediatric Oncology Department of CSM Medical University and is unable to attend school.

Newspapers had published reports about Swati’s illness and her poor financial condition. Akhilesh dispatched youth leaders Sunil Yadav and Anand Bhadauria to verify the situation, and then decreed that the state government would bear the expenses of her treatment.

Her mother Rajni said she had received the message from the Chief Minister’s Office confirming the news.

“I am thankful to the Chief Minister, who has given a new ray of hope for my daughter,” she said.

The Samajwadi Party,in its election manifesto, had promised free treatment for the poor suffering from serious ailments like related to heart, kidney, cancer, etc.
