A meeting of the presidents of district and city units of the Samajwadi Party has been called here on Wednesday to review preparations for the Lok Sabha elections. Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav,who is also state president of the party,will address the meeting.
It is a routine meeting,part of our organisational exercises, said Rajendra Choudhary,the partys state spokesperson stated. The last such meeting was held on January 9. At that time,opposition to several party candidates for the Lok Sabha elections was noticed and Mulayam Singh Yadav had assured that things will be set in order. A report on Lok Sabha candidates from their area has been sought from the district and city presidents. The SP has already declared candidates for 71 of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies. Specific information regarding the working of the candidates,their involvement with the district organisation,relations with party workers,caste equations in districts will be taken up during the meeting.
Mulayam is also likely to express his views over the infighting in several districts.
An organisational report has also been sought from every district. This will cover monthly meetings of district and city units,activity of frontal organisations,and role of ministers in districts. The meeting will also take up the issue of the contribution of Rs 25,000 annually which every party MP and MLA is supposed to make to party fund. In spite of repeated instructions from party office,the response has been far from satisfactory,sources said.
Two killed,three injured in mishap
Two persons,including a police sub-inspector,died and three others were injured when a truck rammed into a police outpost in Agra on Tuesday morning. Sub-inspector Manik Chand was in charge of Jalesar police outpost under the Etmadpur police circle. The other deceased was truck driver Padeep Kumar.
The injured were another truck driver Mukesh,cleaner Narendra and police constable Sushil Kumar. They were admitted to S N Medical College in Agra amd doctors stated their condition was critical. The police seized the truck.
