THE UTTAR Pradesh Police will soon set up an Anti-Terrorsim Squad (ATS) in Sambhal near the newly created police station near the Shahi Jama Mosque, officers said on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police, Sambhal, Krishan Kumar Bishnoi, said that as per the decision taken by the administration, an ATS unit would be established in Sambhal near the religious structure, at the Satyawrat Police Station. “As per the directions issued by the administration for the establishment of the ATS unit, a large parcel of land is required which also has been demarcated,” he said.
The SP also said that it was to be mentioned that several terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), Harkat Ul Mujahideen, SIMI (Students’ Islamic Movement of India) and ISIS have been active in the past and at present, they may be active in different areas of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
“In future, people of such mindset should not rise here… for that a unit of ATS was needed,” he said.
The development came days after a three-member panel that was set up in November last year to ascertain the cause of violence in Sambhal on November 24 that left four people dead and several injured, submitted its report to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
