Dedicating 16 Atal Awasiya Vidyalayas, named after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday praised the Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, saying these schools are a reflection of those who don’t work for selfish interests or for seeking political mileage.
Referring to the allocation of budget to states for the children of migrant labourers, PM Modi said many states used the fund for “electorally opportunistic purposes”, but Uttar Pradesh under Adityanath used the money for securing the future of children belonging to poor sections of society. PM Modi said the budget is allocated for the children of construction labourers who often miss education as their parents keep moving from one village to another in search of work.
“You can see here those who have no intention to make political gains and are not selfish — how do they work? And those who think only about elections, and have the habit of playing games to collect votes —how they waste that money. This fund is available to every state and the Government of India has given complete freedom to them. But most of the states are spending that money on the works aimed to get votes. But Yogi ji…I had spoken this to him a long time ago and he kept this in mind. When those kids will grow up, their parents will not have to work as labourers,” the PM said.
As many as 16 Atal Awasiya Vidyalayas have been built across UP at a cost of about Rs 1,115 crore exclusively for the children of labourers, construction workers and those orphaned by the Covid-19 pandemic to provide them quality education and holistic development, a government statement said. The PM also interacted with students of Atal Awasiya Vidyalayas in Varanasi before attending the event.
Addressing the closing ceremony of Kashi Sansad Sanskritik Mahotsav 2023, the PM expressed confidence that the Mahotsav will create a new identity for itself in the coming times with the support of the people.
PM Modi also highlighted Kashi’s contributions to the success of the G20 Summit. “Those who visited the city had taken back with them the services, flavours, culture and music of Kashi.” He owed the success of the G20 Summit to Lord Shiva (Mahadev). “With the blessings of Mahadev, Kashi is scaling unprecedented dimensions of development,” he said.
Emphasizing that his vision for the development of Kashi as an MP since 2014 is becoming a reality, the Prime Minister said, “Kashi is becoming a centre of attraction for tourists around the world. The people of Kashi know the most about Kashi. Here, every person, every family is the brand ambassador of Kashi in its true meaning. But it is also important that everyone is able to convey the information about Kashi effectively,” he said. To equip them to communicate their knowledge properly, the PM proposed to strengthen the system of quality tourist guides who could describe the city properly. “A Kashi Sansad Tourist Guide competition will also be organised,” the PM said.
“I want to do this because I want the world to know about my Kashi. I want the tourist guides of Kashi to be the most respected in the world,” he said.
