Seven months after the Samajwadi Party government launched 108-ambulance service with funds from the National Rural Health Mission, and named it Samajwadi Swasthya Sewa, the Congress wants credit for the central share in the scheme. Congress Legislature Party leader Pradeep Mathur wrote a letter to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday, asking that the state government should also paint NRHM,Government of India,on these ambulances.
Over 400 ambulances, which are equipped with emergency facilities, have already become operational across the state. Apart from the Uttar Pradesh Government logo, these ambulances carry the logo of the service provider,GVK-EMRI,as well. These ambulances are purchased and made operational from the Central Governments scheme NRHM but the Uttar Pradesh Government has conveniently named it Samajwadi Swasthya Sewa, said Mathur.
He added,We want that the logo of NRHM,which is a Government of India scheme, should also be painted so that people know the contribution of the Central government in these ambulances. Mathur said that if the UP government failed to meet their demand, the Congress would launch an agitation. He criticised the failure of the Chief Minister to attend the Asian Development Banks annual meet in Greater NOIDA in view of a superstition that any chief minister who visits NOIDA loses the next election. We do not expect this from a young chief minister like Akhilesh, he said.
