Two persons were arrested from Sealdah railway station in Kolkata Sunday on charges of trafficking a woman along with her four-year-old daughter to Delhi where she was forced into prostitution in November last year.

The accused, Samsul Sheikh, alias Saddam (38) and Abadulla Mondal (26), were residents of South 24 Parganas district, a Crime Investigation Department (CID) official said.

A case against under IPC sections 365 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing a woman to compel her to marriage, etc.) and 370 (trafficking of persons) was registered at the Mograghat police station on January 2.

Police said the woman, aged 24, was befriended by Saddam who promised to marry her. On November 5 last year, the woman along with her daughter was trafficked to Delhi by the accused, the police said, adding that she eventually was forced into prostitution.

The woman and her child were recovered by district police from Delhi but no arrest was made then.

The CID took up the probe on January 27.
