Police arrested a doctor in connection with the death of a second-year student of Haldia Dental Hospital in Titatgarh on Saturday.

Sushmita Shah (23) was found dead in her flat at Satyam Bihar Apartments in Titagarh. It is being suspected that the girl was raped before she died. At the same time, police is also probing the suicide angle.

Satyajit Roy,a doctor who used to work with Sushmita, was arrested after the security guard of the apartment said that he had come to her place at 5 am today.

“Satyajit said he had gone to Sushmita’s place last night and had a quarrel following which she drove him out of her apartment. He was outside the apartment the whole night and when he pushed open the door in the morning,he found her hanging from the fan,” said police officers probing the case.

According to the police, there are several inconsistencies in Satyajit’s statement. “He said he got her down but he is about half her weight. How he got her down is not clear. Neither there is any sign of her weight on the fan,” said police. The autopsy will also determine whether she was raped.

According to the neighbours,Satyajit used to frequent Sushmita’s apartment.
