Inaugurating the Poush Mela at Visva-Bharati virtually, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Sunday said the institution cannot be run with an “autocratic mindset”.
In her virtual address, Banerjee appealed to everyone to uphold the values of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore who had founded Visva-Bharati in 1921.
“The university cannot be run with an autocratic mindset. One should maintain a cordial working relationship with all stakeholders…People did not like the university’s decision to stop holding the Poush Mela,” she added.
The Poush Mela is being held at Purbapalli ground on Visva-Bharati campus after three years. The fair could not be held in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, in 2022, the university authorities, headed by former vice-chancellor Bidyut Chakrabarti, did not allow the fair to take place.
