West Bengal Cyclone Montha Rain, Weather Forecast Today: With Cyclone Montha expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Tuesday, the IMD has predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers for south Bengal districts, including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, and Jhargram.

Although Kolkata isn’t directly in the cyclone’s path, it will experience light rain or thundershowers throughout the week.

A yellow alert has been issued for south Bengal on October 28 and 29, with heavy rain predicted in Howrah, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, and Jhargram, as per the weather department.

North Bengal will remain relatively dry on Tuesday, with light rain predicted only for Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

The IMD has cautioned against waterlogging in low-lying areas, traffic congestion, and damage to standing crops, urging residents to avoid taking shelter under trees or electric poles during storms. Farmers are advised to harvest matured crops and store them safely before heavy rain begins.

Over the Bay of Bengal, gale winds reaching 80-100 kmph are expected, making the sea conditions extremely rough. Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea along and off the West Bengal coast from October 28 to 30. The Kolkata and Haldia ports have hoisted Distant Warning Signal No 2, while Sagar Island has been issued sectional signals.

As of 8:30 am on Monday, the cyclone was centered around 520 km east-southeast of Chennai and 570 km south-southeast of Kakinada.
