The Telangana High Court on Wednesday issued bailable warrants against the district collector of Rajanna Sircilla and the special deputy collector of land acquisition for their failure to comply with a previous order of the court regarding the payment of compensation in a land acquisition case.

The petitioner, Velpula Yellaiah, had sought a writ of mandamus to declare the draft award and its approval illegal and arbitrary and to direct the authorities to initiate fresh proceedings under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013.

Yellaiah is seeking compensation for his property and land at Cheerlavancha in Rajanna Sircilla district’s Thangallapally mandal.

On June 30, the court issued an order directing the district collector and the special deputy collector to make arrangements for the payment of compensation to Velpula Yellaiah within four weeks of receiving the order.

When the case was heard again on September 3, the government pleader requested and was granted additional two weeks to comply with the order. The court then made it clear that if the order was not complied with, the two officials must be present in court to explain their non-compliance.

During the hearing on Wednesday, Raja Sreepathi Rao, senior counsel appearing for Velpula Yellaiah, submitted that the officers had not complied with the court’s order.

A bench of Justice N V Shravan Kumar noted that neither the compensation had been paid nor were the officers present in the court. It then directed the court registry to issue bailable warrants against the district collector as well as the special deputy collector and ensure their appearance at the next hearing.
