The Congress has alleged that Telangana’s ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi and the BJP have made a secret pact and are forming an alliance to defeat it, citing a “secret” New Delhi visit by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s son and IT Minister K Taraka Rama Rao.

AICC state in-charge Manikrao Thakre said Saturday that the BRS was once again cosying up to the BJP after criticising the saffron party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for months.

“Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao is on the verge of forming an alliance with the BJP. They are making it look like a meeting to discuss Telangana issues but it is basically to seek a tie-up with the BJP to save BRS MLC K Kavitha, who is embroiled in the Delhi liquor scam, from arrest,’’ he said.

Senior Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir questioned why the chief minister or KTR had never met Modi or Union ministers or given a memorandum seeking development funds when they came to the state.

“Today they say they are meeting the ministers only for development funds. But the truth is that they have made a secret pact with the BJP,” he alleged, adding that KTR’s visit to New Delhi was also aimed at preventing the arrest of his sister Kavitha in the liquor scam case.

Ali also said it had become clear that the BJP and the BRS are one and the same.

“BJP leader Bandi Sanjay talking about KTR’s visit to Delhi is ridiculous. BJP leaders including Home Minister Amit Shah spoke about corruption in the Kaleshwaram project and other projects. BJP leaders often claimed that the KCR family will be sent to jail for swindling public money. But not a single inquiry has been ordered and even Kavitha, who was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate twice in the liquor scam case, has been let off,” he said.

State Congress chief A Revanth Reddy wondered why KTR, who is the BRS working president, was meeting Amit Shah while several Opposition parties from across the country got together in Patna in a show of strength aimed at defeating the BJP.

Ali also said that many BJP leaders had realised that the party’s rivalry with the BRS is fake. “That is why many leaders from the BJP will join the Congress soon. Their agenda has been exposed,” he said.
