Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday said a caste survey will be taken up in the state soon. He made the announcement following a meeting with officials of backward classes, minority and tribal welfare departments at the Secretariat.
He said the government is committed to fulfil the promise of conducting a caste survey, aimed at better delivery of government benefits and welfare schemes to the people, made during the Assembly election campaign.
Officials of different departments, including revenue, SC, ST, BC, minorities, and municipal administration among others, have been asked to prepare a plan to launch the survey next month.
A caste survey is currently ongoing in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Last November, the Andhra Cabinet approved a proposal to take up a comprehensive Backward Classes caste survey. However, state Backward Classes Minister C S Venugopala Krishna had said that the survey covers all castes and not just BCs.
