A day after a 27-year-old man from Uttarakhand, who had been working as a bartender at a resort in Goa, was arrested for allegedly molesting and stabbing a Dutch tourist in her tent and stabbing a 42-year-old man who rushed to her aid, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant Friday announced that labour cards will be issued to all labourers coming to the state from outside.

“Every such incident is taken seriously. It has now been decided that the labour department will issue labour cards to all the labourers when they enter the state or when contractors bring them to Goa for employment… so that we have information about where they are staying and which state they hail from and so that they do not indulge in such incidents and criminal activities,” Sawant told media persons.

CM Sawant also announced a bravery award for Eurico Nayan Dias, the local who had rushed to help the Dutch national. “On August 15, Eurico Nayan Dias will be felicitated with a bravery award,” Sawant added.

Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte told The Indian Express that police verification of staffers at hotels and resorts, especially those employing people from outside the state, shall be conducted.

As reported by The Indian Express, hours after a 29-year-old Dutch national had arrived in Goa for a yoga retreat, she was allegedly molested and stabbed with a knife by a staffer of the resort where she had been staying late on Tuesday night.

The Dutch national and Eurico are undergoing treatment at a hospital for stabbing injuries.

“I have been travelling since earlier this month and after visiting Rajasthan and Mumbai, my plan was to stay at a resort for a night before heading to a four-day yoga retreat in Goa. After dinner at the resort, I went to sleep in my tent. The tent did not have a door; it was just a fabric. Around 2 am, suddenly the light was switched on. I woke up and saw a man removing the mosquito net around the bed. He had duct tape in his hand and he tried to grab me,” the Dutch woman had told the police.

She told the police that she screamed for help as he tried to grab her arm. “He told me to shut up or he would kill me. I bit him hard as he put fingers in my mouth, and tried to push him off the bed. As I struggled, I kept yelling for help. Then I saw another man enter the tent. Initially, I was scared that he was an associate of the accused, but he told me that he was there to help, and a fight ensued between him and the accused,” she is learnt to have told the police.

She added that the accused then ran away, only to return shortly holding a kitchen knife. “He then stabbed the man who had come to help me. The other person started bleeding and ran to seek help, while the accused stabbed me with the knife. While defending myself, I tried to overpower him and managed to take the knife from him. I then told him to leave. He picked up his phone and fled,” she allegedly told the police.
