On November 10, the 50-year-old American author will deliver the Penguin Annual Lecture 2014 in Delhi. In 2005, Brown was named as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by TIME magazine, credited with “keeping the publishing industry afloat and spiking tourism to Paris and Rome”, after his 2003 novel The Da Vince Code. The Penguin Annual Lecture series was launched in 2007 as part of the publisher’s 20th anniversary celebrations. The opening lecture was delivered by Thomas L Friedman titled “The World is Still Flat”.
Ever since, eminent personalities such as Dalai Lama, Amitabh Bachchan, Amartya Sen and APJ Abdul Kalam have participated in the annual event. Before the lecture in India, Brown will be speaking at the 33rd Sharjah International Book Fair on November 6.
