Two men in a car were shot at by unidentified persons who were following them — with the bullet piercing through the window on the driver’s side — in South Delhi’s CR Park on Thursday night.

Police said around 8.14 pm, they received a call of a firing from C Block in CR Park and that one person was injured. Police rushed to the spot and found that two scrap dealers, Sachin Gupta and Waseem Ahmad, were in the car.

DCP (South) Chandan Chowdhary said Sachin was driving when all of a sudden, a single round was fired at them from the driver’s side. “The bullet pierced through the window on the driver’s side and injured his finger,” said the DCP.

Police said on further enquiry, it was found that two persons, whose faces were covered, were following the car on a bike.

A senior officer said, “The incident took place some distance away from market number 1… the victims are scrap dealers. We have retrieved CCTV footage of the area, in which men on a bike can be seen following the victims… One of them suddenly whips out a pistol and fires at the car, after which the car stops and the two-wheeler speeds away.”

Another officer said they are probing several angles, including that of personal enmity. “It is suspected that it can also be a case of mistaken identity and the same is being probed… We have traced the number plate of the two-wheeler and raids are on to nab the men,” said the officer.

A case under IPC section pertaining to attempt to murder has been lodged at CR Park police station.
