Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy became a victim of cyber crime after an unidentified person recently created a fake profile of the BJP leader on a social networking site and posted comments on the IPL controversy.

Activated a few months ago,the Facebook account has 10 photos uploaded.

Rudy’s personal assistant filed a complaint with the Delhi Police on Friday after the MP found the fake profile, sources said. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch later registered a case under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and of impersonation against unknown persons.

Rudy’s associate Anil Khosla has, meanwhile, posted a message on the fake account saying “some fraud” was operating and “misusing” it. “He (Rudy) has already initiated action and asked me to inform you all,” the message stated.

One of the messages posted on the profile said,“What’s your take on IPL imbroglio? I think it’s time cricket gets seen as a sport and not as entertainment.”

Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat confirmed that a complaint was received about the fake Facebook profile and said EOW was investigating it. “We are trying to locate and identify the culprit,” Bhagat said.

Taking the Facebook account to be Rudy’s,several BJP and ABVP activists have posted greetings to the MP on it. One comment on it is from Vani Tripathi,a 1995-batch IAS officer and a BJP national secretary, greeting Rudy on his birthday last month.
