Harshul Setia and his fiance Shivali, both 28, visited Chandni Chowk on Monday to shop for their wedding, scheduled for February 10. On the way back, they were sitting in their car at a traffic signal along with Harshul’s mother and brother, when an explosion ripped through a car on the opposite side of the road, shattering the windows of their car, resulting in Harshul sustaining injuries to the head.
A resident of Gadarpur in Uttarakhand, Harshul said he was returning to his brother’s house in Noida when the blast occurred.

“Bhagwan ne bacha liya (God saved us),” he said while showing a deep cut on the head. “Some glass pieces had to be taken out.”
“My fiance wanted to visit Delhi to shop for our wedding… we had heard a lot about shops at Chandni Chowk,” said Harshul, a businessman in Uttarakhand who deals in agricultural insecticides and pesticides.
Shivali said a man passing by on a scooter gave them a ride to the hospital. “He was dizzy and bleeding. The man tied both of us by the waist on the scooter so that we wouldn’t fall… and brought us to the hospital.”
Harshul’s car is still at the site of the blast.
Lying next to Harshul is Ankush (29). He has cracked a bone in his head and has been unconscious. “He is safe and will be out of danger soon,” said the staffer.
Nearby, Aman Ansari (26) is undergoing a brain surgery after receiving multiple head injuries in the blast.
He had come to Delhi along with his cousin Nauman Ansari (21) to buy wholesale cosmetic products for their shop at Kairana in Uttar Pradesh. While he survived the blast, Noman wasn’t so lucky and succumbed to burns he sustained in the explosion.
Sitting in the patient attendant area outside the Neurosurgery OT, Aman’s father Mohd Haroon said, “I cannot speak… do not have the courage.”
Aman’s brother-in-law Mohd Younis said, “Whenever Nauman would come to Delhi to purchase cosmetic products. Aman would accompany him…”
Nauman’s uncle Mehfooz Ansari said that Nauman had to take over his brother’s cosmetics business after the brother developed kidney issues. “Socha nahi tha ki itne kum umar me chala jayega. Galati ki hamne usko itni zimmedari dekhe (Never thought he would leave us at such a young age. It was a mistake to burden him with so much responsibility),” he added.
