Four persons allegedly poisoned a 70-year-old man with sweets and robbed 30 goats worth around Rs 6 lakh from him in Outer Delhi’s Narela area on Friday afternoon. Police said a 72-year-old woman was also poisoned by the same group, which made off with 22 of her goats. A case has been registered and the probe is on.
A senior police officer said the incident came to light after a resident of Singhola village in Narela made a call to the PCR and said he had found two persons lying unconscious near the village.
“After receiving the call, police rushed to the spot and took the victims to a nearby hospital. While the man, identified as Ram Chandra, was declared brought dead, the woman identified as Indira Devi was referred to LNJP hospital where she is recuperating,” a police officer said.

A case has been registered at Narela police station. “Initial investigation has revealed that the victims were grazing their goats in a forest area near Singhola village. Around 1 pm, they were stopped by four persons, including a woman, who offered them poisoned sweets. Once they fell unconscious, the group made off with their goats,” the officer said.
According to police, Devi lived in Singhola village along with her grandson and she always went to graze her goats in the forest. “Around 8 am, I came from work and found that my grandmother had gone to the forest. At 2 pm, my children informed me that she had not come home yet. I then started looking for her. Later, my neighbours informed me that she was taken to a nearby hospital after she was found unconscious,” Gulab Rajput, Devi’s grandson, said.
