The Noida Authority on Tuesday finally opened the six-lane Bhangel elevated road on the Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera (DSC) Marg for trial, five years after construction began, officials said.

The 4.5-km stretch of road, built at a cost of Rs 608.08 crore, passes over several congested market areas, and was among the Authority’s key infrastructure projects aimed at decongesting one of Noida’s busiest corridors.

The road extends from Vikas Marg in Noida’s Sector 51 to the Noida Special Economic Zone (NSEZ), and connects Noida with Greater Noida, Dadri, and Surajpur, and links several densely populated urban villages such as Sadarpur, Chhalera, Agahpur, Barola, Salarpur and Bhangel.

The road is also an important connector between industrial and residential sectors — including Sectors 40, 41, 43, 47, 48, 49, 82, 88, 101, 106, 107, and Phase 2 of Noida.

The project was launched in June 2020 to address chronic congestion on the route. The inauguration was initially scheduled for December 2022.

“The project was progressing slowly until mid-2023. After taking charge, [Noida Authority] Chief Executive Officer Dr Lokesh M expedited work through regular inspections and close monitoring, enabling the Authority to complete the long-awaited structure,” Vijay Rawal, Deputy General Manager, Civil Works Department, Noida Authority, said.

“Trial operations are now underway. The route will soon be opened to the public after necessary assessments have been made. We expect that the elevated corridor, once operational, will significantly reduce travel time and ease pressure on ground-level traffic,” he said.

Rawal had earlier told The Indian Express that the elevated road would benefit at least 2 lakh people living in Greater Noida: “A large number of labourers stay in Phase 2 and NSEZ. Their travel time will be reduced from 35-40 minutes to just five minutes,” he had said.
