Northeast Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari on Thursday promised to build a house soon for Uttarakhand tunnel rescuer Vaqeel Hasan, a day after the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) demolished the house of the rat-hole miner as part of its anti-encroachment drive.
The BJP MP said the house would be provided under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
Hasan had played a big role in rescuing 41 workers who were trapped for 17 days in the collapsed Silkyara-Barkot tunnel in Uttarakhand last year.
The DDA had called the demolition in Khajuri Khas village in northeast Delhi an exercise to remove encroachment from acquired land, which was part of ‘planned development land’.
“There were some legal issues concerning the house. But we spoke to everyone and he will be given a house under PMAY, just like we have given 3,025 houses to those who live in jhuggis. He will be given a house very soon,” Tiwari told PTI.
When asked about the assurance he had given to Hasan earlier that his house would not be demolished, Tiwari said he later realised there were some hurdles in it. “Yes, I did promise him on the day we felicitated him. But when I looked into the matter, I realised there were several problems. I assure you we will give him a house, legally,” Tiwari asserted.
