The AAP, on Friday, alleged that Lt-Governor Najeeb Jung had objected to the transfer of MLA funds to the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s flood relief funds. Later in the day, Jung’s office issued a statement saying that the L-G had “approved” the contribution of Delhi MLAs for the same.
In a series of tweets, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said he had been informed by “sources” that the L-G had objected to the transfer of Rs 20 lakh each from the MLA development fund.
“Twenty-seven MLAs of AAP wrote to Delhi govt to transfer Rs 20 lakh each from MLAs funds to J&K CM fund. Sources- LG has objected to it. Why?” Kejriwal tweeted.
Another tweet by Kejriwal read, “Last year, Rs 10 lakh each from MLAs fund was transferred for Uttarakhand flood relief. Then why an objection this year?”
Hours later, Jung’s office issued a statement clearing the air on on the issue.
Stating that Jung had approved the MLAs contribution on September 17, the statement read, “the L-G approved that under the MLA local area development scheme, MLAs can contribute to the LG/CM relief fund for victims of natural calamities, especially in context of the floods in Jammu and Kashmir…” The statement said the L-G had asked the Department of Urban Development to “immediately convey the decision to the MLAs…”
Accepting that MLAs had contributed to relief measures earlier, the statement said, “It is expected that a substantial corpus will be made available for relief measures and rehabilitation projects that will be taken up in Jammu and Kashmir through this effort.”
