Amid the ongoing tussle between the AAP and the BJP over a shortage of water supply, Water Minister Atishi will sit on an indefinite hunger strike from 12 pm Friday in Bhogal area of Jangpura demanding the national capital’s share of water from Haryana.
Atishi, on Wednesday, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his intervention to resolve the shortage of water, failing which she would go on an indefinite strike from Friday, June 21.
AAP said that before beginning her fast, the minister will visit Rajghat to honour Mahatma Gandhi. “As the water minister, I tried everything possible. I spoke to the Centre, the Haryana Government and Himachal Pradesh Government… I even approached the Supreme Court and wrote a letter to the PM. Now I have no option left, except for going on a protest,” said the minister.
She said, “Despite making every possible effort, I have not been able to provide water to the people of Delhi and I can’t see their suffering anymore. Therefore, from tomorrow, I will sit on an indefinite fast to provide water to people of Delhi, to get the rightful share of water from Haryana, which will quench the thirst of 28 lakh people.”
Atishi said she will protest till Haryana releases New Delhi’s share of water.
