Increasing the quantity of water that is reused would need a parallel network across the city to carry the treated water to areas where it can be used, like the agricultural land on the city’s outskirts, the official said.

The city has been facing a prolonged shortage of water this summer with the Yamuna drying up in some parts. The DJB had issued a similar notice on June 9 stating that water will be available at low pressure from June 10 onwards, till sufficient raw water is available.

Apart from the Yamuna floodplains, the DJB has also identified fresh water pockets in Dwarka. A consultant appointed to assess the viability of water extraction said over 5 MGD of water can be extracted from these areas.
