At 10 a.m on the 4th Oct 2011,18-year-old Arjun Vajpai reached the summit of Mt. Manaslu (8,163 meters),the eighth highest peak in the world,as the youngest person in the world to have ever been on top of this mountain. Arjun Vajpai was successful in his climb on what is the fourth most difficult mountain peak in the world after Annapurna,Nanga Parbat & K2. (based on number of deaths while attempting a summit). Since the mountain experiences snows all year round there was fresh snow all over the mountain, recalls Arjun. There were many large patches of deep snow making the accent very treacherous and tiring. Walking through knee deep snow at that altitude was testing once endurance to its limit, he says. There was a time when the expedition started planning to abandon the attempt. However weather cleared on 30th September and finally the sun smiled on the mountain permitting the ascent. This summit was such a small place that only one person could stand at a time, and the wind was blowing at a high speed due to which it was very difficult to hold the tri-colour. If I close my eyes now I can still feel the icy coldwind blowing on me on the top of the World, says Arjun.
