The Special Unit for North East Region (SPUNER) under the Delhi Police has urged residents from Northeastern states to submit their personal details to the police for better policing. The police launched a drive to collect details and numbers of people from Northeast states, Ladakh and Darjeeling living in Delhi.
Senior officers said the information would be restricted to their team and not shared with anyone. A link to the Google form has been put up on the social media pages of the police. The form seeks personal details along with details of domicile and caste/sub-caste.
This move by the police comes amid the violence in Manipur. The police said several communities from the Northeast live in Delhi, and they want to ensure there are no clashes in the city.
Joint Commissioner of Police P M Khrimey, already incharge of the Special Unit of Women and Children (SPUWAC), leads the unit. The police said the data would be analysed, and they would be in touch with residents to avoid any untoward incident.
“There are several students and families from Northeastern states living in Delhi. We have to ensure everyone lives peacefully and nobody is harassed or faces discrimination,” said an officer.
