Delhi to get light to moderate rain in next 24 hours

Light rainfall remains on the IMD forecast for Delhi on Sunday, and from August 9 to 11. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 34 degrees Celsius on Saturday, and around 35 or 36 degrees over the week ahead.

After a spell of rainfall early Saturday morning across Delhi-NCR, light to moderate rain is expected over the next 24 hours as well, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Over the past 24 hours, the Safdarjung weather station, the city’s base observatory, has recorded 53.8 mm of rainfall, after a moderate spell Friday night and light rain early this morning. The observatory in South Delhi’s Aya Nagar recorded the highest amount of rainfall over the past 24 hours – 69.6 mm.

Light rainfall remains on the IMD forecast for Delhi on Sunday, and from August 9 to 11. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 34 degrees Celsius on Saturday, and around 35 or 36 degrees over the week ahead.

Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is also expected to continue over Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh from August 5 to 9, and over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh over the weekend.

So far this month, the Safdarjung weather station has recorded 69.1 mm of rainfall, which is above the normal of 42.6 mm till August 5. The ‘normal’ or long period average for the month of August is 233.1 mm.

For the season as well, considered to be from June 1, Delhi has recorded a 70% excess in rainfall, having registered 555.4 mm against the normal of 326.4 mm.

Of the nine districts that the IMD considers for rainfall data in Delhi, only one – Northeast Delhi – has recorded a deficit in rainfall so far this monsoon season. West Delhi has recorded rainfall in the normal range, while all other districts have registered excess rain.
